‘Green Belt school expansion’ Permission was secured for a replacement sports hall and new swimming pool following the refusal of previous proposals. The site was in a very sensitive location within; the Green Belt, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and locally as an Area of Great Landscape Value. The site also fell within a conservation area and was sited close to a listed building.
We worked with the architect to amend the scheme to address the previous reasons for refusal, principally by re-orientating and reducing the scale of the new buildings.
Unlike the previous proposals, which were solely by reference to the school's own requirements, we highlighted the wider benefits of creating an improved quality of building and enhancing the transition between the village and the countryside beyond. This was key to securing a delegated approval.
‘New sports hall and swimming
pool in a conservation area’ This scheme involved proposals for a new sports hall and swimming pool on land within an existing conservation area and sited adjacent to a listed building. ShrimplinBrown’s instruction followed the refusal of previous proposals.
Justifying a building of the size necessary to accommodate a sports hall and a swimming pool in such a sensitive location required detailed analysis of the surrounding heritage assets. We also emphasised the local benefits of improved landscaping around the site, whilst maintaining the School's privacy and minimising costs.
The resulting proposals were approved under delegated powers.
